Margret Schwartz surveys fire damage to her south Medford house with son Keith Schwartz - Damian Mann

Deputy rescues woman from burning house

A quick-thinking sheriff deputy rescued an 88-year-old woman from her burning south Medford home Saturday night.

"He saved my life and my three dogs," Margret Schwartz said. "All of a sudden, he knocked my door down and came in. He said, "Your house is on fire — let's get out of here.'"

Brian Fish, battalion chief for Medford fire, said the fire started near the garage and had begun to involve the attic area.

The call came in at 10:44 p.m. by the sheriff deputy. Three engines from Medford fire responded along with one engine from Fire District No. 5.

The cause of the fire and damage estimates are awaiting further investigation.
