Debate parties, yes. And maybe even a debate

Democrats and Republicans in Jackson County plan parties to watch tonight's presidential debate. If it happens, that is.

The Jackson County Republican Party has set its gathering at 5 p.m. at party headquarters at 115 W. Main St., Medford, and the Democratic Party plans to meet at 5:30 p.m. at Redrock Italian Eatery, 17 W. Fourth St., Medford.

The debate is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Pacific time at the University of Mississippi, but it fell into question this week when Republican presidential hopeful John McCain said he thought it should be postponed while he and Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama responded to the nation’s financial crisis.

Obama said he wanted to go ahead with the debate, but McCain had not committed to doing that as of late Thursday. See latest story on debate prospects
