Cyclist dies after collision with car

Authorities say a 53-year-old Cave Junction man was hit by a car while riding a bicycle on Highway 199 and has died.

According to Oregon State Police, William Warren Bailey was riding his bicycle Sunday night northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 199 when he was hit by a southbound car.

Officials say Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the area was not lighted and fog was beginning to develop. It is not clear whether Bailey was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car is 42-year-old Joseph Erickson of Portland. Authorities say he was not injured.
