Cruise on down to celebrate cars, kids

Summer in Medford gets going a day early when the Medford Cruise rolls into town today.

The annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley runs through Sunday around the area.

Today's events include a poker run tour of Southern Oregon bed-and-breakfast inns beginning at 9:30 a.m. at HomeTown Buffet and drag races at 4:30 p.m. at the Champion Raceway in the Jackson County Sports Park in White City. Admission is $10.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a party in Hawthorne Park with live music by Jamie's Rock 'n' Roll Legends, with singers impersonating Buddy Holly, Connie Francis, Patsy Cline and Elvis. Following the live music will be a free showing of the movie "American Graffiti" on a 25-by-25-foot screen. Those watching can hear the movie on the radio in their cars as if they were at a drive-in.

Schedules for other days are available in today's Tempo section at The annual car show near Hawthorne Park on parts of Jackson Street begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, and the annual downtown cruise begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. Some area streets will be closed during both events.
