Crews mop up at Antioch fire

A fire near Antioch Road is contained at 13 acres, the Oregon Department of Forestry reported this morning.

Crews worked overnight at the scene of the blaze in the hills near the intersection of Antioch and East Evans Creek roads in Sams Valley, ODF spokesman Brian Ballou said. A new shift of firefighters remains there today mopping up hot spots.

Ballou said inmate crews are handling the work so more highly trained initial attack fire crews can be ready for the next fire.

Investigators are still looking for the cause of the blaze, which was reported at about 2:20 p.m. Monday.
