Crater Lake entry free Saturday

Visitors get a free ride into Crater Lake National Park Saturday as part of National Public Lands Day.

The day is set aside for the public to volunteer on projects on public land, and volunteers will gather at 1 and 3 p.m. at the park's Rim Visitor Center to pick up litter around Rim Village.

The nonprofit Crater Lake Trust also plans events for families between 1 and 3 p.m., including Klamath tribal dancers and musicians, special programs and free root beer floats to the first 500 visitors.

Also, visitors to Rim Village can participate in guided bird hikes led by the Klamath Bird Observatory at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., as well as a Discovering Crater Lake Talk at 11 a.m. at the Sinnott Memorial Overlook and a 4 p.m. talk at Crater Lake Lodge.
