Cousins held in rape of Medford girl, 14

A 14-year-old girl is receiving psychological help after two men allegedly plied her with alcohol at a party Thursday and then raped her, according to an investigation by Medford police.

“This case is like many others I’ve seen where the emotional effects of being victimized are long lasting,” said Medford Police Sgt. Mike Budreau.

“What always surprised me is that the parents do not know where their kids are.”

Police on Sunday arrested cousins Ricardo Martinez-Uribe and Ivan Uribe, both of Medford, on charges of first-degree rape. Each was being held at the Jackson County Jail today on $1 million bail.

The girl, whose name is being withheld, was given enough beer and hard liquor that it rendered her incapacitated when the attack occurred, investigators determined.

Budreau said the girl drank voluntarily, but teenagers generally are not able to control their level of intoxication. “They drink too much so they are not able to care for themselves,” he said.

Investigators are still trying to determine where the party took place within Medford, but are zeroing in on a location, Budreau said. Other children were also at the party.

The girl reported the rape about 24 hours after the attack. Budreau said investigators were able to collect evidence that can be used against the suspects.
