Country club chef wins cooking contest

Rogue Valley Country Club's Executive Chef Trey Hansen won a statewide cooking competition held at the Seven Feathers Casino and Resort.

The Rez Kitchen Tour was Thursday, Sept 26, and boasted a competition field of 11 chefs, organizers said.

The food theme was Northwest Native American cuisine. The competitors were given 30 minutes to prepare a dish from previously chosen ingredients. The mandatory ingredients were King salmon, elk tenderloin, camas root and huckleberry. About 280 people were in attendance to watch this "Iron Chef" type competition. Hansen was awarded $500 for his first place win.

"It was a fun and rewarding experience to participate in this type of competition," Hansen said in a prepared statement. "There were so many talented chefs representing Oregon and Washington and I am pleased the judges chose my dish as their favorite."

Hansen has been with Rogue Valley Country Club since 2009. He previously worked at Café Dejeuner and 38 Central, both in Medford.
