Gene and Glenda Cossette celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4, 2011, with a buffet dinner hosted by the couple's children and spouses at Bybee Historic Inn in Jacksonville. A musical and video tribute to the couple followed the dinner, with about 50 people attending the event.

Gene Cossette married Glenda Fields on Sept. 2, 1951, at First Methodist Church in Medford. They met while they were attending Oregon State University and married following Gene's graduation.

After graduation, Gene enrolled in the Officer's Candidate School for the U.S. Air Force and transferred to Houston, where the couple gave birth to their daughter, Robin. After Gene completed his military service, he attended the University of Oregon dental school in Portland, where the couple had their two sons, Stan and Dave. Upon graduation from dental school, the couple returned to Medford and had their fourth child, Brian. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1963, where they continue to make their home.

Gene retired in 1989 and acted as the general contractor for their dream home. He enjoys fishing and recently returned from a trip to British Columbia with his sons. Glenda worked as a full-time homemaker and had a brief career teaching second grade at Jewett Elementary School in Central Point.

Since retiring, the couple have traveled to Europe as missionaries, as performers for the Rogue Valley Chorale and as tourists. They have traveled in their motor home across the United States and Canada, and remain active with their church, First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.
