Cool forecast opens up camping sites for Memorial Day weekend

A forecast filled with cool, wet weather has opened up campsites around the state for Memorial Day weekend, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department reported Wednesday. Reservations Northwest, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's campsite reservation center, could have scattered openings available because of cancellations. Bookings made by 5 p.m. Thursday can reserve sites for Saturday and through the rest of the weekend.

If a reservation doesn't work out for you, you could try one of the park campgrounds that offer campsites on a first-come, first-served basis, park officials said.

Updated information on vacancies is available from the State Park Information Center by calling 1-800-551-6949 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A list of these parks is posted at
