Chow down, community style

It's the day of big eating, and if you don't have a meal of your own planned, several options exist in the region. They include:

A community potluck and jamboree at 1 p.m. in the gazebo near the Lithia Park band shell in Ashland. Participants are encouraged to bring meats, vegetable dishes, desserts or refreshments, plus musical instruments and seating. Details: 482-8305 .

A free meal at 1 p.m. at the Grants Pass Community Center at the corner of Fourth and L streets in Grants Pass. Doors open at noon, and a buffet line will start at 1 p.m. Tom Mendez & Friends and Buck's lively dance band are scheduled to perform. To make reservations, call 474-2202.

Far toward the other end of the financial spectrum, a McCloud train service offers a sunset Thanksgiving Day dinner this afternoon. The fare is $79.95 for adults and $49.95 for kids under 12, and for that you get a train ride and Thanksgiving dinner. Trains board at 12:30 p.m. and return to McCloud by 4 p.m. Details: 800-733-2141.
