Central Point wall panel builder adds Washington plant

Central Point pre-fabricated building firm Pacific Wall Systems has added a second plant just south of Tumwater, Wash.

The seven-year-old company produces complete wall panels for residential and commercial construction. It employs 25 on its two production lines at its Table Rock Road plant and has added 20 more workers at its Washington plant.

"The market is growing up there," said Nancy Mansfield, one of the firm's owners. "Now that the recession is over and building is on the incline the commercial demand for wall panels has increased."

Although 80 percent of construction east of the Mississippi River is done with similar technology, western builders have been slow to adopt complete wall panels.

"Contractors in the Northwest are beginning to see the speed and ease of using the system," she said.

Mansfield said the company considered the expansion for about a year before pulling the trigger. The new plant is adjacent to a lumber mill on the west side of Interstate 5.

"There is a lot of commercial activity involved in hotels and apartment complexes and that fits our niche," she said.
