Central Point Purple Parrot robber still eluding police

CENTRAL POINT — Police continued to search today for a masked gunman who robbed a Purple Parrot store in downtown Central Point early Sunday.

The store at 227 East Pine St. was closed at 3:45 a.m. when the lone male clerk heard a commotion behind the store and opened the back door to investigate, according to the Central Point Police Department.

The clerk told police he was confronted by the robber, who was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, police said.

The gunman pointed a small, unknown caliber handgun at the clerk and demanded money, police said. The clerk gave the robber an unknown amount of cash and the robber fled on foot without ever entering the store, police said.

The clerk immediately called police, and a canine unit from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department helped search for the suspect without success, police said.

The robber was described as standing about 5 feet 9 inches and weighing between 150 pounds and 175 pounds.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to telephone Detective Jarod Pomeroy at 541-664-5578.
