Central Point opens warming shelter tonight

Volunteers from Calvary Temple Church tonight will open a warming shelter to provide a warm place to rest and blankets and soup for the region's homeless.

The warming shelter opens tonight at the church at 513 E. Pine St at 8 p.m. It will remain open until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Lows tonight are forecast to be in the 20s.

Organizers plan to offer it weekdays all winter when nighttime temperatures dip to 32 degrees or below, said longtime resident Debbie Saxbury, who is coordinating the effort.
