California upsets No. 21 Temple

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Harper Kamp scored 13 points, Allen Crabbe had 12 and California beat No. 21 Temple 57-50 on Thursday night in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic.

The Golden Bears (3-0) were propelled by a 16-1 run late in the second half to help the defending Pac-10 champions hand the Owls (2-1) their first loss of the season.

Crabbe ripped the ball away from Rhalir Jefferson with about 30 seconds remaining, and he hit two free throws to give Cal a six-point lead and seal the victory.

Lavoy Allen had 13 points, and Jefferson scored 10 for a Temple team whose non-conference schedule is only getting tougher.

Cal will play Notre Dame on today. Temple will face Georgia in the loser's bracket of the tournament.

Murray State 55, Stanford 52

At Anaheim, Calif., B.J. Jenkins scored 15 points, including two free throws in the final 25 seconds, as Murray State held on for a victory over Stanford on Thursday night in the first round of the 76 Classic.

The Racers (3-1) led 29-18 at halftime and scored 18 points off 18 turnovers by the Cardinal (3-1).

Dwight Powell led Stanford with a career-high 16 points and scored 12 of Stanford's 18 points in the first half. Josh Owens finished with 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out with 5:28 left.

Isaiah Canaan, who scored eight points, made two free throws with 13.8 seconds left to put the Racers ahead 53-49.

Arizona State 73, Houston Baptist 55

At Anchorage, Alaska, Trent Lockett scored 18 points Thursday night as Arizona State fought off Houston Baptist in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Kyle Cain had a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds for the Sun Devils (2-1). Keala King scored 13 and Rihards Kuksiks 12.

Andrew Gonzalez led the Huskies (0-4) with 26 points, and Miles Dixon scored 14.
