California man jailed following armed scuffle with deputies

DORRIS, Calif. — After battling two Siskiyou County sheriff's deputies, a Dorris man is being held at the Siskiyou County Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Skylar Brown, 20, was arrested Thursday at his residence, after a deputy responded to a report that a suicidal man had overdosed on anti-depressant medication at the Butte Valley Mobile Estates.

When the deputy arrived, Brown allegedly threatened him with a machete. According to a press release from the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department, the deputy and Brown then began to grapple. Near the same time, an off-duty deputy responded to the scene as backup, the release said.

Before he was placed into custody, Brown was hit with a Taser charge "multiple times with no effect," said the release. During the altercation he used glass shards from a broken vase to injure one deputy, and a head butt to injure the other, the release said.

The deputies, whose names were not released, were transported to the Fairchild Medical Center along with Brown to have their injuries treated.
