Bridges close for inspection next week

Jackson County engineers will close two bridges while conducting semi-annual inspections.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, Jackson County engineers will inspect Cobleigh Road Bridge over Big Butte Creek. The bridge inspection requires the use of a "snooper" truck, a truck with numerous lifts to give inspectors views from above and up-close underneath, county engineer Mike Kuntz said.

The snooper truck's outriggers that provide extra leverage and support for the truck take up a space about 13 to 14 feet wide, he explained. This large piece of equipment will fully block the bridge's travel lane, so the bridge must be closed to all traffic during the inspection. Since alternate routes are not available, people living on or visiting Cobleigh Road should plan their travel around the closure, officials said in a news release.

A similar inspection using the same truck will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, on the Lampman Road Bridge over Galls Creek. This bridge will also be closed to all traffic during this time. Motorists using this section of Lampman Road will be required to use alternate routes during the closure.

Previous closures for these semi-annual inspections have been conducted without incident in the past, Kuntz said.
