Boulder kills Medford man working on Gales Creek trail

HILLSBORO — The Washington County Sheriff's Office says a Medford man was killed by a falling rock while working on a trail near the Gales Creek Campground in the Coast Range west of Portland.

The body of 59-year-old Randy Hodges was found by an Oregon Department of Forestry employee Thursday after Hodges' family said they had not heard from Hodges for four days.

Hodges was working alone under a contract to open an old trail that had not been maintained for some time. He was struck by a boulder that was dislodged in the area where he was working.
