Ashland High enters state theater competition

The Ashland High School Theater Department will perform eight award-winning pieces that will be featured at a state competition next week.

The department's showcase, set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, at the Mountain Avenue Theater, 201 S. Mountain Ave., will include monologues, scenes and musical numbers.

The student performers scored in the top 15 percent at the Oregon Regional Acting Competition showcase and will head to the State Thespian Festival in Salem on Wednesday, April 2.

At the festival, Ashland theater students also will present technical entries, a one-act play and workshops for fellow students, said Betsy Bishop, who sponsors the school's thespian troupe.

Tickets for Monday's showcase cost $5 for students and seniors and $10 for general admission. Proceeds will be split between The Maslow Project, Doctors Without Borders and scholarships to help pay the costs of attending the state festival.
