Shuttertime 1 Photography will hold a grand opening from 4 to 8 p.m. today at its fourth-floor gallery in the Woolworth Building, 33 N. Central Ave., Medford.

Photographer Louis Ruth will display landscape photos and his recently released fourth book of photos featuring views of Southern Oregon.

Ruth moved to the Rogue Valley from Valley Stream, N.Y., a few miles from JFK Airport, when he was 8.

While serving as a cook in the Army, he discovered nature photographer Ansel Adams and began shooting with a 35mm camera.

He self-published his first book, "Beauty of Southern Oregon," with 120 photos in 2008. His latest 180-page venture, "Majestic Beauty of Southern Oregon," includes 175 photos and was released three weeks ago.

He moved into Suite 411 a few months ago, outgrew the venue and is now in Suite 419.

"I was drawn to the downtown, because I liked its sense of history," Ruth said.

His stylized high dynamic range photos, capturing various gradients of light, will be on display, including scenes from a bridge crossing the Rogue River near Gold Hill, a deteriorating barn near an airport, a historic church on Table Rock Road and a Japanese garden in Portland.

His regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. He's out of the gallery on photo shoots on weekends.
