Art celebrates airport solar projects

The Medford airport will unveil a sundial-inspired sculpture to recognize Pacific Power customers for their Blue Sky funding, which helped pay for the installation of solar panels at the airport.

The unveiling is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the airport. Jackson County officials will be in attendance, as well as the architect, contractor for the project and representatives from Pacific Power, an airport news release said.

The event celebrates the completion of the second phase of adding solar panels at the airport. This latest project installed panels on three canopies extending from the terminal curb to the airport's flag plaza near the parking lot. The panels can generate 25 kilowatts of power and help protect travelers from sun and rain, officials said.

A $170,684 Pacific Power Blue Sky grant paid for much of the $223,143 project.
