Apparently drug-addled man scuffles with cop

A Central Point man was cited and released on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest after a minute-long scuffle with a police officer who was trying to arrest him earlier this week, police reported.

Robert Lee Weaver, 20, was allegedly trying to break into a home near the corner of Bush and South Second streets at 6:33 p.m. Monday, March 25. Central Point police responded to a 911 call placed by the homeowner. An officer found Weaver walking on Bush Street near South Fourth Street. He was not wearing a shirt and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police said the officer got out of a patrol car to get Weaver's attention. Weaver responded by jumping into the vehicle's passenger side and refusing to get out. The officer tried to restrain Weaver, but he fought back, police reported. The altercation lasted almost a minute before police were able to handcuff him.

It's still not known what substance Weaver allegedly used before the altercation. After he was restrained, Mercy Flights arrived on scene to transport him to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

"It could have been a number of things that amped him up like that," said Lt. Jeff Britton.
