Analysis: Few precincts favored library levy

Residents in Ashland and Talent voted heavily in favor of a library levy in last week’s election, but most of Jackson County rejected it, according to a preliminary precinct breakdown from elections officials.

Out of 51 precincts in the county, only 12 endorsed the $8.3 million library levy that would have increased property taxes to open all 15 branches.

Final results from the county Elections Office show that 33,852 voters, or 58.3 percent, cast ballots against the library levy while 2,4253, or 41.7 percent, voted in favor of it.

In Medford, a majority of voters in precincts that contain the Rogue Valley Manor and a downtown area favored the levy. A smaller precinct that includes the Veterans Affairs domiciliary in White City also favored the measure.
