Alaska Air reports strong earnings

Alaska Air Group, whose Horizon Air unit, is the largest commercial carrier serving the Medford airport, reported record second-quarter income, of $110.8 million, or $1.53 per share, compared to adjusted net income of $89.6 million, or $1.22 per share, a year ago.

Alaska was ranked No. 1 by the U.S. Department of Transportation in on-time performance among the 10 largest U.S. airlines for the 12 months ending in May 2012.

A six-year agreement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, representing Alaska's ramp service and stores agents, was ratified last week.

Alaska serves 90 cities and its Horizon unit connects Medford with Portland, Seattle and Los Angeles.
