A six-car collision in downtown Medford leaves two in the hospital

Update: A driver apparently suffering a medical problem caused a six-car collision this afternoon that closed Central Avenue for nearly two hours.

Medford police Sgt. Tom Ianieri said the driver may have had a health problem that caused him to collide with four moving cars and two parked cars on Central Avenue at about noon.

The block between Fifth and Sixth streets was closed and traffic detoured while emergency crews extricated at least one of the victims, transported two to Rogue Valley Medical Center and cleared the roadway.

Police are not releasing the names of the people involved yet, but only the driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately available.

A multiple-car crash closed Central Avenue in Medford at noon today, sending two to the hospital.

At least one of the victims required extrication and was transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center for treatment, according to emergency reports.

Tow trucks have cleared the vehicles from the scene, and emergency crews are waiting on a street sweeper to clear the glass on the street before reopening the block. Central is closed from Fifth to Sixth street but is expected to reopen soon.

More details on the crash will be posted when they're available.
