31 pounds of marijuana seized during Tuesday traffic stop

A Medford man who was pulled over by police for not having a front-facing license plate on his vehicle Tuesday was cited and released on charges he was carrying 31 pounds of marijuana in his trunk, Oregon State Police reported.

Rahmon Able, 36, was driving northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 10 outside Ashland at 2 p.m. Tuesday when he was pulled over for the license plate violation, according to a media release from OSP. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana in the trunk, police said. The substance was packaged in 31 individual bags and has an estimated street value of $75,000, the release said.

The bags were seized, and Able was taken into custody. He was later released and ordered to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court for unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance, OSP officials said.
