$600 plane ticket OK for county commissioner

GRANTS PASS — Josephine County Commissioner Jim Raffenburg will not have to pay for a $600 plane ticket his fellow commissioners rejected earlier this year.

Commissioners Dwight Ellis and Dave Toler had voted against paying for Raffenburg's weeklong trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the National Association of Counties convention.

Ellis and Toler accused Raffenburg of trying to sneak the trip past them and violating the county charter by booking the $3,000 junket without approval from the board.

But Ellis changed his opinion during a meeting today, saying the trip was booked before new travel policies for elected officials were in place.
