  • COOS BAY — The Cascade Christian girls basketball team has frustrated its opponents all season with its defense. As of late, the Challengers have turned more and more to a full-court press that has disrupted the opposition.
Third-seeded Salem Academy was the latest victim of the Challengers' stifling press on Thursday at North Bend High School in the Class 3A state tournament.
The seventh-seeded Challengers shocked the Crusaders 60-45 in the quarterfinal round and will face defending state champion Vale in the semifinals today at 6:30 p.m. at Marshfield High School.
"The big thing was defensively we really got after it," said Cascade Christian coach Marvin Denman. "Salem Academy, they're a very good shooting team but we kept the pressure on them and we just didn't allow them to really get going."
